Oil Radish
Fodder radish is a fast-growing cover crop that produces large tap roots to improve soil structure and break up compaction. Also referred to as oil radish (for nematode controlling varieties) and tillage radish (for exceptionally deep-rooting varieties), all varieties are in fact the same species - Raphanus sativus. The exception is Daikon, which is actually a vegetable species, and produces particularly bulbous roots.
Fodder radish is effective sown either as a straight or in mixtures with other cover crop species, and is effective at controlling weeds, rapidly producing organic matter and scavenging nitrogen in addition to its beneficial roots.
